OTHELLO

Theatre Factory 42, a company from Georgia directed by Levan Tsuladze, re-interprets Othelloconsidering the Moor’s violence as the dreadful consequence of the damage which every war ineludibly does to the human soul. The costs of war cannot be quantified. War is trauma, for soldiers and civilians alike. War affects soldiers in a particularly traumatic way because it often implies interior violence: Othello, a general of the Venetian defence forces, has gone through it all and his cruelty originates exactly from this issue. War traumas undermine what is best in him and end up undoing him, turning him into a murderer.
