Perikles f’Nofs Baħar (Pericles in the Middle Sea) is a proposed reimagining of Shakespeare’s Pericles as a multilingual Mediterranean tale of migration, survival and the power of storytelling. Fluidly shifting between the four languages that have shaped the history of Malta and much of the Mediterranean – English, Maltese, Italian and Arabic – the performance will unfold through a five-person ensemble doubling and multi-rolling in a fast-moving, stripped-back, highly physical storytelling style. Characters shift between languages as they cross borders, encounter strangers, or rediscover family, allowing linguistic change itself to become a form of storytelling. The episodic structure of Pericles—with its shipwrecks, exiles, and miraculous reunions —becomes a poetic reflection on the movement of people, cultures, and languages across the Mediterranean Sea.
